Loving Yourself the Way God Loves You - Pink Salt Riot
So what exactly does it look like to love yourself the way God loves you?
If you’re already squirming at that question, hang in there.
Let’s go back to what we know about God: God is good, God is truth itself, God knows us inside and out, and God made us. So when we look at ourselves the way that God looks at us it’s with real, actual 2020 vision.
God knows all your faults, all your sins, all the things that are less than awesome about you. But as the saying goes, God knows your sin but He calls you by your name and Satan knows your name but he calls you by your sin.
Which do you do for yourself?
Adopting God's view of us does not mean thinking that we are unconditionally awesome with no faults and no issues. Look at how Jesus spoke to people during his time on earth: he interacted with sinners frequently, but not in a place of “Look how awful you are“ but more from a place of invitation into something more, reminding them that the life of sin is below their dignity and that God has so much more waiting for them if they are willing to cooperate with him and step into it.
Seeing ourselves with God‘s vision should immediately move us from self involvement to deep gratitude and thankfulness for God‘s grace, mercy, and goodness in making us. And then from that place we find ourselves so much less interested in sin and so much more interested in being the person that God made us to be.
And that's the good kind of self-worth. That's defining ourselves by God's standards and not our own, surrendering instead of controlling.
It's freedom - and we know that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
