Christian Mental Health Resources

We chatted earlier this month about how important it is for us to seek mental healing if we need it, but where should you go? Navigating the mental health landscape can be tricky for a Christian, especially with so many New Age, problematic resources regularly being used in the secular world.

We have curated list of a whole bunch of favorite places to go for healing and support in a way that will build up your faith instead of compromising it - therapists, podcasts, books, blogs, and more.

Since we are local to Tulsa, OK we have included some resources local to us, but many have online components as well.

Therapists:

Linda Russell: Your past is being lived in your present. Trauma from adoption, adverse childhood experiences, unhealthy attachment, difficult family dynamics, depression, divorce, military trauma, pain management typically result in difficulty making choices, unhealthy relationships and high anxiety. Getting relief may seem impossible. I am a certified EMDR (trauma) therapist who has years of experience in helping clients find a safer, calmer quality of life. "Successful counseling happens in a safe and relational environment." Find a safe person in a safe place to speak your deepest fears, you can be restored at Breakthrough Counseling. Breakthrough Counseling, my group practice offers confidential, Christian counseling sessions. Go to our website at www.breakthrough-counseling.com to get more information. If you mention that you found us through Psychology Today and you are not using insurance, your first session is only $100. I am an Oklahoma certified supervisor for LPC candidates. Currently accepting supervisees for LPC. Please call 918-286-3278 for more information. I am an EMDRIA approved consultant and trainer for EMDR Consulting. I am a licensed professional counselor in Missouri, Texas, and Kansas as well as Oklahoma.

Sheila Duncan: I'm passionate about working with women, especially African American and Christian Women. I work with women who struggle with their faith, low self-esteem, poor body image, depression, anxiety, menopause issues, feelings of guilt, consequences of poor relationship choices, hurt by “Church folks”, angry with God, life-transitions and self-forgiveness. I provide online psychotherapy and Christian Counseling. The modalities that I use are Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Solution Focus Brief Therapy. By applying these therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Visit our website for more info.

Laurel, MD 20707 (301) 637-0495

Allan Gates: Allan is a licensed therapist who is currently providing individual counseling as well as marital counseling with a Christian focus. He helps to build strength in individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression or relationship issues. He has over 40 years of counseling experience. He has worked and directed programs in the inpatient, intensive outpatient and outpatient settings at Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital for many years. Allan believes in getting "to the core" of the problem and being a partner in the healing process. Allan uses a variety of strength based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Christ Centered/Biblical Based Therapy, Gates Marriage Assessment and the Gottman Method. I also provide premarital counseling. I would love to be a part of your journey in finding what it takes to increase inner-strength and regain hope! Visit our website for more info.
