Pain and suffering are guaranteed in this world. For this reason “endurance” is an essential virtue to our character as Christians if we are to be successful in anything. The good news is that Jesus knew of the trouble and tribulation we would face and that is why he told us that He has overcome the world (John 16:33). Through His promise we can only obtain victory in every aspect of life. We do not have to lose hope and be discouraged.
In life we are all running a race, and it is not a sprint but a marathon. The one who crosses the finishing line of a marathon is the one who learns how to endure. Persevering brings about a change in our character during the journey. It's not about how fast or the method we use to cross the finishing line but it is about the type of people we would have matured to be.
Let us turn our attention to these 15 encouraging bible verses reminding us not to give up. When you feel that your strength to hold on has run out, take time to meditate on these verses and you will receive the grace of endurance. (All verses are taken from Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA) version of the bible.)
1 Corinthians 16:13: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, do manfully, and be strengthened.”
Romans 15:5: “Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of one mind one towards another, according to Jesus Christ:”
Hebrews 6:18: “ That by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have the strongest comfort, who have fled for refuge to hold fast the hope set before us.”
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of affliction, to give you an end and patience.”
Mark 13:13: “And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he that shall endure unto the end, he shall be saved.”
6. James 1:2-4: “My brethren, count it all joy, when you shall fall into divers temptations; Knowing that the trying of your faith worketh patience. And patience hath a perfect work; that you may be perfect and entire, failing in nothing.”
2 Corinthians 4:17: “For that which is at present momentary and light of our tribulation, worketh for us above measure exceedingly an eternal weight of glory.”
James 1:12: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been proved, he shall receive a crown of life, which God hath promised to them that love him.”
Romans 12:12: “ Rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation. Instant in prayer.”
Isaiah 40:31: “But they that hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall take wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Philippians 4:13: “ I can do all these things in him who strengtheneth me.”
Colossians 1:11: “Strengthened with all might, according to the power of his glory, in all patience and longsuffering with joy,”
Galatians 6:9: “And in doing good, let us not fail. For in due time we shall reap, not failing.”
2 Timothy 2:3: “Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
Revelation 3:10: “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I will also keep thee from the hour of the temptation, which shall come upon the whole world to try them that dwell upon the earth.”
Jesus, there are many times I have struggled in this battle. I felt alone and exhausted and I was about to give up when I read your words in the Bible. Thank you Lord for giving me the strength to hold on. I declare victory over every aspect of my life through your holy name. I will not give up, because I am fixing my eyes and my absolute confidence in You. I have stopped trying to
keep everything perfect, instead, I will trust your words to push through in endurance. Lord, if I can take just one more step with you, I will be okay. Amen
